Poliovirus (Types 1, 3) Antibodies POLIO
|Method(s)||Semi Quantitative Serum Neutralization|
|Collect||One 5 mL gold (SST) or plain red top tube.|
1 mL serum refrigerated. (Min: 0.2 mL). Separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection.
After separation from cells: Ambient 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles).
Plasma samples. Contaminated, hemolyzed or severely lipemic specimens.
|Preferred Specimen Collection Device(s)|
Less than 1:10: No detectable poliovirus antibodies.
Interpretive Data: The presence of neutralizing antibodies against poliovirus implies immunity. The serum neutralization test is serotype specific. Antibodies against one type does not indicate immunity against the other type.
