Specimen Required
Collect

One 3 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube. Also acceptable: One pink (K2EDTA) top tube. Do not collect in refrigerated tubes.

Transport

2 mL plasma, frozen. (Min: 1.2 mL). Separate from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection and freeze immediately - CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Remarks

Collect midmorning after patient has been sitting, standing or walking for at least 2 hours and seated for 5-15 minutes. Refer to the Additional Technical Information for specific patient preparation recommendations.

Stability

Collection to initiation of testing: Ambient: 6 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 1 month.

Unacceptable Conditions

Serum. Specimens collected in heparin, citrate or oxalate. Hemolyzed specimens.
