Collect

One pre-chilled 3 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube.

Transport

Whole blood on wet ice within 45 minutes after collection

OR

1 mL frozen plasma on dry ice.

Remarks

Hospitals and on-site draw stations:

  • Collect in pre-chilled EDTA tube.
  • Place tube in wet ice and transport to laboratory immediately.
  • Centrifuge in refrigerated centrifuge if available.
  • Aliquot plasma (1.0 mL min) and freeze immediately.

Office and off-site draw stations:

  • Collect in pre-chilled EDTA tube.
  • Centrifuge immediately after collection. Aliquot plasma (1.0 mL min.) and freeze immediately.
  • Transport to laboratory on dry ice.

For locations without ability to centrifuge specimens:

  • Call for a stat courier when patient in the office and ready to be drawn.
  • Do not collect until courier is expected to arrive.
Stability

Not stable unless collected and processed as described. Frozen: 1 month.
