Remarks

Draw blood into citrate (light blue) tube filled to the proper level (1 part anticoagulant to 9 parts blood). Invert tube 3-4 times to avoid clotting.

Stability Ambient, Refrigerated: 4 hours; Frozen: 2 weeks.
Unacceptable Conditions

Specimens that are clotted, hemplyzed, collected in the wrong tube, less than 90% filled, exceed the stability limit, or non-frozen plasma are unacceptable for testing.

Notes Heparinized samples are not acceptable for testing. Tranport the tube to the laboratory ASAP so that platelet-poor plasma can be prepared and frozen. Platelet-poor plasma must be frozen within 4 hours of collection.
