Autopsy Services for Crouse Hospital

Type of Autopsy

 Comments

Adult

Permission is coordinated through the clinical staff on the floor where the death originates.  When permission is obtained, admitting will be notified.  The Admitting Department will notify the pathologist when the body and all appropriate records are available.  Please call the Pathology Department with any questions.

At the request of a Crouse physician, autopsies may be performed on patients who die at home provided they do not fall under the purview of the Medical Examiner and they have been an inpatient at Crouse within the previous year or are under the care of a physician who actively admits to Crouse Hospital.

Perinatal/Neonatal

Infants who have reached a gestation of 20 weeks, weigh 300 grams or over, or are live born require the same permissions as an adult.

Stillborn infants under 20 weeks gestation (or which weigh less than 300 grams) may be submitted for examination as a surgical pathology case (use form #5819).

Please call the Pathology Department with any questions.
