Technical Processing Assistant (Transfusion Services Department)

Schedule: Two full time positions available: one 1st Shift, one 2nd Shift

Responsibilities: Receive patient specimens/orders, enter blood components into inventory, issue blood products, splitting blood products, inventory control of blood products, daily reports/Duties, shipment of units to SUNY for irradiation, transfusion reaction procedure, confirmatory blood type, cooler preparation and other duties assigned. 

Education: High school diploma and one year of laboratory experience.

Work Environment and Hazards: Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.  

Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, some walking and sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, computer terminals and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory.  May require lifting up to 30 pounds or more. 

Interactions: May have frequent contact with hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, vendors and regulatory or accrediting agencies.
