Shift Supervisor, Central Receiving Area (CRA)

As part of our team of technical staff spanning all areas of laboratory medicine, including hematology, cytology, histology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry and transfusion medicine, our CRA staff enjoy professional growth and opportunities.

Job Description: Using independent judgement, the successful candidate, under the supervision of the Manager of the Central Receiving Area (CRA), is responsible for the coordination and the supervision of the area and staff on the second shift.

Duties include, but are not limited to, overseeing patient registration and troubleshooting issues in the department.

The successful candidate will interact effectively and in conjunction with Laboratory Alliance’s Transportation, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Customer Service Department staff as well as our physicians, vendors, visitors, nursing personnel, regulatory agencies and clients.

 The CRA Shift Supervisor:

• assists the manager with preparation of second shift employee schedules, maintains up-to-date procedure manuals.

• communicates with staff regarding any additions or changes to procedures.

• assists in the coordination of orientating new employees.

• other duties as assigned.  

• must have hands-on knowledge of the work flow and ability to work the bench.

Work Environment: Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a health care environment.

Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, some walking and sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, computer terminals, and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory. 

May require lifting up to 30 pounds or more. 

Requirements: 

High school diploma with a strong science background preferred. 

Two to four years of experience in the Central Receiving Area of a clinical laboratory with demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience.

Proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations. 

Knowledge and experience in medical insurance systems, clinical lab testing. 

Experience in pre-analytical sample/specimen processing. 

Experience with training/teaching.
