Schedule: Full time 1st & 2nd Shift with holiday and weekend rotations

Laboratory Office Assistant

Primary responsibilities include: patient registration and ICD-9 coding, specimen processing, customer service inquiries, answering and directing phone calls.

Education:   High School degree and 0-1 year of laboratory experience.  Knowledge common to a basic health care environment. 

Work Environment And Hazards:  Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.

Physical Demands:  Requires prolonged standing, some walking and sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, computer terminals, and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory.  May require lifting up to 30 pounds or more. 

Contacts:  May be frequent with hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, vendors, and regulatory or accrediting agencies. 

Special Equipment, Skills Or Other Requirements:  Proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations.  Excellent customer service, and strong computer skills preferred. Patient registration and order entry functions.  Requires the use of equipment such as computer terminals, centrifuges, telephones, copiers.
