Position: Information Systems Technician (IST) Entry-level

  Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION SUMMARY:  The I.S.T. is an entry level position into our IT department; training will be provided for the selected candidate. An I.S.T. is responsible for keeping client data current in our system through data entry; prints requisitions and manages the printer and paper; distributes reports via email or fax; and will be trained to take support calls from our employees, do basic troubleshooting, and route the problem to the appropriate team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The I.S.T’s duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Strong emphasis on data entry through the use of in-house applications
  • Review system logs
  • Help desk phone support
  • Basic troubleshooting
  • Maintains Inventory
  • Report generation and distribution
  • Requisition configuration and printing
  • Various additional information system duties as needed

EDUCATION:  High School diploma; fast and accurate keyboarding skills needed. Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel) preferred.  Must exhibit attention to detail, willingness to learn new things, and possess strong communication skills with an appreciation for quality customer service.  Healthcare and/or laboratory experience, preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged standing, sitting, and/or walking, some bending, stooping, and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, computer terminals, and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory.  May require lifting up to 30 pounds or more.

CONTACTS: May be frequent with laboratory personnel, pathologists, physicians, hospital employees, nursing personnel, physician office staff, visitors, vendors, regulatory and accrediting agencies and any clients of Laboratory Alliance.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations, ability to learn and work independently as well as in group situations, demonstrate analytical ability. Valid NYS drivers license and transportation
